Skills specialize the model. MCP connects it to live systems.
Most developers treat AI assistants like chatbots. This workshop teaches the modern stack: rules for always-on context, skills for on-demand expertise, and MCP for live connections to your tools and data. Over two focused live sessions you'll install skills from the explainx.ai registry, write your own SKILL.md files, connect Claude Code and Cursor to MCP servers, and leave with a production-ready skill library and MCP setup you can share with your team. Built on the same curriculum as our Agent Skills & MCP course and flagship blog guides — but live, hands-on, and with direct instructor feedback.

Sessions
Session 1: Rules vs Skills vs MCP — The Three-Layer Model
Map the modern agent stack: always-on rules (CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md), on-demand skills (SKILL.md), and live connectors (MCP). Understand progressive disclosure and when to use each layer. Browse the explainx.ai skills and MCP directories and pick the right tools for your workflow.
Session 2: Installing & Authoring Agent Skills
Install skills with npx skills and from the explainx.ai registry. Write your first SKILL.md from scratch — frontmatter, triggers, step-by-step instructions, and examples. Practice progressive disclosure patterns that keep context lean while staying powerful.
Skills covered
You'll build
- →Install 3 production skills from explainx.ai (e.g. mcp-builder, seo-geo, premortem)
- →Author a domain-specific skill tailored to your role or stack
Connect Claude Code and Cursor to live tools via MCP. Configure existing servers, understand security basics, and assemble a team-ready skill + MCP workflow with lockfiles and governance.

Session 4: Security, Team Workflows & Publishing
Cover supply-chain security for skills and MCP (verification, SkillSpector patterns). Set up skills-lock.json for reproducible team installs. Publish a skill to explainx.ai and document your team's skill library playbook.
