Connect ExplainX to ChatGPT

Add ExplainX as a custom app under Apps & Connectors.

ChatGPT's Apps & Connectors settings let you register a remote MCP server as a custom app, which typically requires developer mode for connectors outside OpenAI's built-in list. Once ExplainX is added, you can bring it into a chat with the app picker to search news, prices, and directory listings.

Setup steps

  1. 01Open ChatGPT settings and go to Apps & Connectors.
  2. 02Open advanced settings, enable developer mode if required, and create an app.
  3. 03Use https://mcp.explainx.ai/mcp as the MCP server URL.
  4. 04Complete the ExplainX sign-in and authorization screen.

Frequently asked

Why does ChatGPT ask me to enable developer mode first?

OpenAI gates custom, non-reviewed MCP connectors behind developer mode so you explicitly opt in before an app outside ChatGPT's built-in connector list can run. It's a one-time toggle in Apps & Connectors settings.
