Social Learning

Social learning is the process of acquiring knowledge and skills by observing others, participating in dialogue, and imitating models — not only through direct trial-and-error.

Most associated with psychologist Albert Bandura's social learning (or social cognitive) theory, which holds that people learn behaviors and concepts in social contexts through attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation. In AI education, social learning maps to cohort courses, peer discussion, learning in public, mentoring, and dialogic tutoring where the learner must explain and defend ideas — patterns that outperform passive consumption of AI-generated answers.
