Anthropic reported in September 2026 that Claude agents flagged the system after searching a DNA database for reverse transcriptases, and early experiments show the array is expressed as short RNAs. Its function is not yet known and the work is a pre-print, so it is a candidate discovery rather than an established gene-editing tool.
