Anthropic’s Anthropic Academy path now includes a formal milestone for partner practitioners: Claude Certified Architect—a credential aimed at people who already ship with Claude and want vendor-recognized proof of depth.
This post is a field guide: format, domains, scenario framing, pricing, official prep, and how ExplainX fits in—including our Claude for Work course on Udemy and a Claude certification prep track we are building to align with exams like this one.
Disclaimer: Exam structure and policies belong to Anthropic and Skilljar (Anthropic’s learning platform). Confirm details on the live Academy pages before you register.
Who it is for
Public copy positions the exam as exclusive to Anthropic partners: practitioners at partner companies with foundational knowledge who are ready to show deeper, applied skill—not an entry-level literacy quiz.
Non-partners see messaging to apply to the Claude Partner Network if they want access.

What you are tested on: five competency areas
Anthropic weights 60 questions across five domains:
| Area | Weight | What it emphasizes |
|---|---|---|
| Agentic Architecture & Orchestration | 27% | Agentic loops, coordinator–subagent patterns, task decomposition, session state, workflow enforcement |
| Tool Design & MCP Integration | 18% | Tool boundaries, structured errors, MCP servers, distributing tools across agents |
| Claude Code Configuration & Workflows | 20% | CLAUDE.md hierarchies, slash commands, path-specific rules, plan mode vs direct execution, CI/CD |
| Prompt Engineering & Structured Output | 20% | Explicit criteria, few-shot patterns, JSON-schema enforcement, validation and retry loops |
| Context Management & Reliability | 15% | Long-horizon context, escalation, error propagation in multi-agent setups, uncertainty handling |
If you are mapping study time, agent orchestration plus Claude Code plus structured prompting account for most of the blueprint—MCP and reliability are smaller slices but still fair game in scenario-based items.
Exam scenarios (six frames, four per exam)
The Academy describes six production-style scenarios; each exam randomly draws four. They anchor questions in realistic contexts—for example:
-
Customer support resolution agent — Claude Agent SDK, high-ambiguity tickets, MCP tools (
get_customer,lookup_order,process_refund,escalate_to_human), targets like 80%+ first-contact resolution with safe escalation. (Touches: orchestration, MCP, reliability.) -
Code generation with Claude Code — acceleration across generation, refactor, debug, docs; slash commands,
CLAUDE.md, plan mode vs execution. (Claude Code, reliability.) -
Multi-agent research system — coordinator delegates to web search, document analysis, synthesis, reporting; cited outputs. (Orchestration, MCP, reliability.)
-
Developer productivity — Agent SDK, codebase exploration, boilerplate, automation; built-in tools plus MCP. (Tools, Claude Code, orchestration.)
-
Claude Code in CI/CD — automated review, tests, PR feedback; prompts that reduce false positives. (Claude Code, structured output.)
-
Structured data extraction — unstructured documents → validated JSON, schema enforcement, edge cases, downstream integration. (Structured output, reliability.)
Full narrative detail lives in the official Exam Guide (see below).

How ExplainX fits: Claude for Work today, certification prep next
Claude for Work (Udemy)—live now
Our Claude for Work course on Udemy is built for teams and individuals who want hands-on fluency with Claude in real work: productivity workflows, Claude Code, MCP, and practical prompting—overlapping several Architect exam themes (especially Claude Code workflows, tool/MCP literacy, and structured prompting at a practitioner level).
If you are not yet in Anthropic’s partner exam cohort, Claude for Work is still one of the strongest general stacks we publish for “Claude at work” credibility—and it complements Anthropic’s own Academy catalog.
Claude certification prep—in progress at ExplainX
We are actively building a Claude certification prep offering aimed at helping learners clear vendor exams in this family—including competency-aligned drills, scenario-style practice, and clearer bridges between Agent SDK, MCP, CLAUDE.md, and structured output patterns.
Status: not a substitute for Anthropic’s official materials or registration rules—think of it as structured preparation layered on top of docs and Academy courses. Announcements will land on explainx.ai and this blog when the prep track opens.

Bottom line
Claude Certified Architect is Anthropic’s bid to standardize what “production-ready” means for Claude builders inside the partner ecosystem: long, closed-book, multi-domain, scenario-grounded. Start from the official Exam Guide and Academy courses, use Claude for Work on Udemy for applied breadth, and stay tuned for ExplainX’s dedicated certification prep as we ship it.
